The Joomla 1.5 Stable (Khepri) was released on January 22 and was almost 2 1/2 years in the making and shows a great improvement and streamlining of the user interface compared to the Joomla 1.0x series.

You can either do a fresh install or migrate your old 1.0x site to 1.5, but please be aware that due to the great changes in the core of version 1.5, most 1.0x templates and extensions will not work with version 1.5, which has caused a frency by the template designers and extension programmers to convert their old templates and extensions to be compatible with the new version.

We will write a more indepth articles ourselves in the near future on the improvements of 1.5 over 1.0x and how template/extension conversions are working on 1.5.

On a side note, the Cpanel addon Fantastico ((by Netenberg) added version 1.5 to their line of one click installs yesterday (Feb 22nd), and at the same time they kept legacy support with 1.0x with an upgrade to 1.0.14 which they will need to update one more time to include the latest security release to Joomla! version 1.0.15.
