Manufacturer Sakic.net
Website Web Site
Pros Supports native CAPTCHA as well as reCAPTCHA
Automatically replaces Joomla's own registration module without any need to hack core files
On-the-fly field validation as you type
Cons Somewhat expensive on multiple site installations.
Verdict This solution works out of the box with minimal fuzz; offers two kinds of asynchronous CAPTCHA and reCAPTCHA which will put an end to spam-bots registering accounts and on-the-fly field validation.

AJAX Register is a replacement for Joomla! 1.5 native registration component which gives your users a better signup experience through AJAX based account creation.

Sakic.net has a reputation of releasing stable, quality software with great support; so when we were given the chance to check out AJAX Register we just had to jump on it.

AJAX Register is a replacement for Joomla 1.5's native registration plugin that offers two different kinds of CAPTCHA engines, on-the-fly field validation and a really quick and simple installation procedure without core hacks.

It also shows a password strength meter as a nice bonus.

The two CAPCHA options are native CAPTCHA, a very basic but still useful option; and re-CAPCHA which is the cadilac of CAPTCHA engines everywhere.  And it is free!

All you need to do is go to www.recaptcha.net, signup for a free account and create a private and public key to be used by AJAX Register.

In addition to offering the superior reCAPTCHA engine, you can also choose between four different skins (clean, red, white and black glass).

You do not need to change any links, just install it, configure it, and you are done.

It would be nice if it would also cover the contact form in addition to the user registration form, maybe in a future version?

I had my site ready except from one thing: a captcha supported registration process.

Then, I wasted about 10 days trying to figure out how to install one of the free ones, no luck. I decided to buy AJAX Register and I am very happy with it. Not only it is easy to configure, the final look of the registration form is nice as well ( I am not really into css).

But I am happy about another thing as well, the price is very fair and I like supporting coders that do great work and sell it "close" to open source ...

Thanks
